MURIEL (Mümü)

Background

After finishing her education as a French-English translator in 1992, Muriel worked in the tourism industry for four years. She began her career as a tour guide for a prominent German travel agency and later managed a travel firm in Germany for two years.

Muriel discovered scuba diving during a stay in the Maldives. She resumed her dive training once she returned to Germany.

In 1996, Muriel was offered a full-time scuba instructor position in the Maldives, and she decided to accept it.

JOOP

Background

Joop began diving in 1982, but did not dive frequently following certification. He started his compulsory military service in 1984, then signed on as a professional soldier until 1990. During this time he worked as a photographer and public relations officer. Joop served with the Multinational Force & Observers (MFO) on the Red Sea in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, for six months, during which time he rediscovered his passion in diving.

From 1990 to 1996, Joop attended the Academy of Journalism in Tilburg. During his studies, he had multiple opportunities to work at a dive centre in the Maldives during the winter.

After graduating, Joop was offered a full-time position as a base leader in the Maldives. Instead of working a desk job, he decided to pursue a career in scuba diving.

From 2012 to 2015, Joop studied maritime archaeology at Syddansk Universitet in Denmark. The curriculum included training to become a commercial diver.

Joop has also been Son Bou Scuba’s dive boat skipper since 2018.

Background

In 1996, René started diving during a holiday in the Maldives, where he completed his entire training. After finishing his training as a PADI diving instructor in 1999, he worked for several months a year on various islands in the Maldives until 2002.

Since 2004, René has been coming to Menorca regularly to accompany our guests on dives and to train new as well as experienced divers.

Since 2010, Rene has also been a state-certified ski instructor and works as a ski guide in the Tyrolean Alps during the winter months.

robbin

ROBBIN (Japie)

Background

At age 11, Robbin was introduced to scuba diving after which he completed his PADI Seal Team.

Since his Open Water certification, he has been diving fanatically in the Netherlands, as well as abroad. When Robbin is not diving, he works as a high school biology teacher.

In 2019, he obtained his PADI Divemaster and then worked his first season at Son Bou Scuba. In 2020 Robbin successfully completed the PADI instructor course and became a MSDT at Son Bou Scuba in the same year.

roelof

ROELOF

Background

In 1986, Roelof began diving in the Netherlands. He then dived in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and in Southeast Asia. In 2012, he completed his PADI instructor training in the Maldives.

Roelof works in the Netherlands as an independent auditor and controller, alternating this job a few months a year as a diving instructor.

He worked in the Netherlands, Bonaire and Menorca, among other places.

PADI Divemaster candidates wanted!

Are you a PADI Rescue diver and would you like to become a PADI Divemaster? Then this may be your chance to train with the help of experienced PADI instructors. No role-playing or a weekend course, but gaining experience directly in practice. As a PADI Divemaster with work experience you can work almost anywhere in the world. Son Bou Scuba wants to offer divers with a sense of responsibility and leadership qualities the opportunity to do a Divemaster internship.

What we want:

  • In addition to English, you speak fluent German, French or Spanish (Spanish is a plus)
  • You have your own diving equipment or are willing to purchase it
  • Non-smoker
  • You have a friendly and professional attitude

The training lasts 6 to 8 weeks and is done in July and August.

What we offer:

  • Free PADI Divemaster training at a value of 950 euros
  • Free dives (50-100 dives)
  • Purchase of diving equipment at dealer price
  • Free DSD Leader training if you stay for 8 weeks
  • We contribute to the costs of eventual rent
  • You’ll receive a contribution towards your food expenditure

This is a win-win situation for both, because you not only get your certification as a PADI Divemaster and gain work experience immediately, but you also get a reference to help you on your way in your further diving career.
